NoVA's Positive Average Of Coronavirus Tests Reaches New Low
All regions except southwest Virginia have positive averages in the 4-percent range.
VIRGINIA — On Monday, 854 new coronavirus cases were reported in Virginia, bringing the cumulative total to 159,570 cases. The positive average of PCR tests is at 4.5 percent statewide, and Northern Virginia reported its lowest average throughout the pandemic.
According to the Virginia Department of Health, there have been 3,361 deaths and 11,553 hospitalizations among COVID-19 patients in Virginia. Monday's total reflects three new deaths.
Across Virginia, the total number of cases per 100,000 people within the last 14 days is 152.4. Monday's 854 new cases include 274 in the northern region, 180 in the southwest region, 152 in the central region, 139 in the northwest region, and 109 in the eastern region.

Northern Virginia's 4.2 percent positive average as of Oct. 8 is the lowest seven-day average so far. At a peak, the region's average had been 35.8 percent on April 26. Among local health districts, Alexandria and the Fairfax Health District had record-low averages of 3.7 percent and 3.6 percent, respectively. Arlington County reported a 3.3 average and Loudoun County had 4.9 percent. The Prince William Health District's average of 6.3 percent remains above the regional average.
Other regional averages include 4.1 percent in the eastern and northwest regions, 4.3 percent in the central region, and 6.5 percent in the southwest region. Statewide, 2,271,842 PCR tests have been completed, a 15,022 increase from Sunday. To find testing locations and testing events, visit the VDH website.

The current number of COVID-19 hospitalizations stands at 965 statewide. That includes 92 patients on ventilators and 205 in the intensive care units, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. Ventilator use among all Virginia hospital patients is at 22 percent of capacity, while ICU occupancy stands at 77 percent. That's 10 percent higher than the 2019 average for ICU occupancy in Virginia. No hospitals are reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment or other medical supplies in the next 72 hours.
According to the association, 18,539 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals to date.

- Alexandria: 4,032 cases, 323 hospitalizations, 73 deaths; increase of five cases
- Arlington County: 4,209 cases, 511 hospitalizations, 152 deaths; increase of 22 cases and one hospitalization
- Fairfax County: 22,089 cases, 2,195 hospitalizations, 599 deaths; increase of 137 cases and four hospitalizations
- Fairfax City: 144 cases, 13 hospitalizations, eight deaths; no changes
- Falls Church: 74 cases, 13 hospitalizations, seven deaths; no changes
- Loudoun County: 7,259 cases, 449 hospitalizations, 128 deaths; increase of 42 cases and two hospitalizations
- Manassas: 1,993 cases, 130 hospitalizations, 24 deaths; increase of 11 cases
- Manassas Park: 626 cases, 56 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of one case
- Prince William County: 13,166 cases, 944 hospitalizations, 213 deaths; increase of 56 cases
- Fredericksburg: 567 cases, 50 hospitalizations, five deaths; increase of one case
- Spotsylvania County: 2,273 cases, 140 hospitalizations, 46 deaths; increase of 13 cases and two hospitalizations
- Stafford County: 2,162 cases, 165 hospitalizations, 19 deaths; increase of seven cases
