Serial Killer Charles Severance's Convictions Upheld

Judges upheld the convictions and multiple life sentences of Charles Severance, who was found guilty of killing three Alexandria residents.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- On Tuesday, three Virginia Court of Appeals court judges denied the appeal of convictions and multiple life sentences of Charles Severance, who was found guilty of killing three Alexandria residents, The Washington Post reported.

Severance, 56, was convicted of capital murder in the 2013 and 2014 shootings of Ron Kirby and Ruthanne Lodato and of first-degree murder for the fatal 2003 shooting of Nancy Dunning. He was found guilty in 2015 and sentenced to three life terms plus 48 years in 2016.

Severance's lawyers had argued there were flaws in both his trial and sentencing. They said the 2003 crime should have been separate from the other two. All three were committed in the victims' homes in the middle of the day.
