Transition To LED Streetlights In Progress In Alexandria
The switch to LED lights continues as the city and Dominion Energy focus on finishing arterial roads first.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The transition to LED streetlights has made progress in Alexandria, according to the city's Transportation & Environmental Services Department.
The department's Mobility Services and Traffic Operations division is working with Dominion Energy to change the streetlights from incandescent lights to LED lights. According to the city, the LED lights can last five times longer than incandescent lights and produce 90 percent less energy consumption, in turn saving the city money.
The current focus is completing arterial and collector streets before work starts in more residential neighborhoods in early 2022. Areas that have been completed include Van Dorn Street, Eisenhower Avenue, Duke Street, Washington Street, N. Quaker Lane, the Cameron Station neighborhood and the Carlyle area. Now the city is working on completing Route 1, King Street, Braddock Road, and Glebe Road.
