Tuesday, March 1 Election Day Checklist for Alexandria Voters

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- On Tuesday, March 1, there will be Democratic and Republican presidential primary elections in the City of Alexandria. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. at each regular polling place.

Here are three things to help prepare for Election Day:

1. Confirm Your Polling Place

On Tuesday, you must vote at the polling place for your assigned precinct. To confirm your voting location, go to the Voter Information Page on the Virginia Department of Elections website or call the Alexandria Voter Registration Office at 703.746.4050.

2. Know What’s on the Ballot

Review the Democratic and Republican sample ballots prior to Election Day at alexandriava.gov/Elections. Virginia voters do not register by political party; each voter may vote in either Primary, but not both.

Be aware that ballots were printed in early January, prior to the start of absentee voting, and candidates who have suspended their campaigns or withdrawn from a contest since that time are still on the ballot. You will not be able to use electronic devices inside the polling place, and election officials will not be permitted to provide information about candidates. Please research your choices before arriving at the polling place.

3. Make Sure You Have a Valid Photo ID

State law requires Virginia voters to show photo identification when voting in person. Examples of acceptable ID include a Virginia Driver’s License, U.S. Passport, or Military ID. You can review the complete list of acceptable ID at the Virginia Department of Elections web site.

Voters who do not have acceptable ID may apply for a free Voter Photo ID from Alexandria’s Voter Registration Office, which can be used to vote in their precincts on Election Day. The Office is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Election Day from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Voters who do not bring a photo ID when voting may still vote a provisional ballot. For the March 1 elections, voters have until noon on Friday, March 4, to deliver a copy of their photo ID to the Voter Registration Office or appear in-person to apply for a free Voter Photo ID Card and request a Temporary ID.
