Update On Minnie Howard Campus Design Planned
ACPS will expand the current Minnie Howard Campus to address growing enrollment. The project is in the design phase.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — With the Alexandria High School Project in the design phase, the community will receive the latest design update on the Minnie Howard Campus and aquatic facility at an Aug. 10 meeting.
The Alexandria School Board voted in September 2019 for a Connected High School Network, building on the Minnie Howard Campus to address growing high school enrollment projections. Alexandria City High School enrolls about 3,800 students on its main King Street campus and Minnie Howard campus, the latter of which is being used as a ninth grade campus. The Connected High School Network option adds onto the Minnie Howard Campus to accommodate 1,600 additional students. Funding for an aquatic center at the Minnie Howard Campus was approved in June 2021 by Alexandria City Council. The second option considered was building a second high school.
A tentative timeline provided at a previous community meeting indicated the design phase runs from March 2021 to June 2022, followed by construction through September 2024. Occupancy is aimed for September 2024.
