What's Open, Closed For Labor Day 2022 In Alexandria
As Labor Day weekend approaches, here are the holiday closures and events to know around Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Residents will bid farewell to summer as the season unofficially ends with Labor Day weekend. As families hold backyard barbecues or head to the beach for some late summer fun, there will be various closures for the holiday.
Labor Day falls on Monday, Sept. 5, when City of Alexandria government offices will be closed along with other services. Some other services like transit will be open with schedule changes.
If you're looking for something to do, some of the region's events will include the Alexandria Black History Bus Tour, National Symphony Orchestra Labor Day Concert, in DC, the Labor Day Car Show in Fairfax, National Book Festival in DC, DC JazzFest in DC and $3 movies for National Cinema Day. It's also the last weekend for many pools and splash parks in the region.

City of Alexandria government offices: Closed on Monday, Sept. 5.

Alexandria City Public Schools: Alexandria City Public Schools and administrative offices are closed on Sept. 2 and 5.
Courts: The Alexandria Circuit Court Clerk's Office, Alexandria Circuit Court, Alexandria General District Court, Alexandria Juvenile Court, Domestic Relations District Court, and the Court Service Unit (520 King St.) are closed on Sept. 5.
DASH Bus: On Sept. 5, Alexandria Transit Company’s free DASH bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule. The free King Street Trolley will operate from King Street Metro to Alexandria City Hall every 15 minutes, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Alexandria Transit Company administrative office will be closed. Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers in Northern Virginia (including 2681 Mill Road, Alexandria) will be closed Sept. 5.
Health department: Alexandria Health Department (4480 King St.), the Flora Krause Casey Health Center (1200 N. Howard St.) and the Teen Wellness Center (3330 King St.) will be closed Sept. 5.
Historic Alexandria museums: On Sept. 5, Gadsby’s Tavern Museum (134 N. Royal St.), Freedom House Museum (1315 Duke St.), and the Stabler–Leadbeater Apothecary Museum (105–107 S. Fairfax St.) will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. All other City of Alexandria museums will be closed. For more information, visit www.alexandriava.gov/Historic.
Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the local Child Protective Services hotline at 703-746-5800 or the state hotline at 1-800-552-7096; the domestic violence hotline at 703-746-4911; the Emergency Mental Health Services or Substance Abuse Crisis Hotline at 703-746-3401; the local Adult Protective Services Hotline at 703-746-5778 or the Adult Protective Services State Hotline at 1-888-832-3858; the Suicide Prevention Hotline at 703-527-4077 or 988; and the Sexual Assault Hotline at 703-683-7273.
Impound facility: The city’s impound facility (5249 Eisenhower Ave.) will be closed Sept. 5. The Impound Facility is closed every Saturday and Sunday, as well as on all observed city holidays. Fees continue to accrue on Saturdays and Sundays, but not on holidays.
Libraries: All Alexandria Library branches, and the Alexandria Law Library (520 King St.) will be closed on Sept. 5, including talking books, telephone and curbside services. For more information, visit alexlibraryva.org/locations#holidays.
Metro: Metro will run on a Sunday holiday schedule on Sept. 5 from 7 a.m. to midnight. Metro has closed five Orange Line stations between Stadium-Armory and New Carrollton through Sept. 5. On Sept. 2, 5 and 6, the Green Line will have single tracking between Southern Avenue and Naylor Road. On Sept. 5 to 8, the Red Line will have single tracking after 10 p.m. between Silver Spring and Forest Glen. Check back for detailed weekend Metrorail information here.
Outdoor Pools: On Sept. 5, the Old Town Pool (1609 Cameron St.), and Warwick Pool (3301 Landover St.) will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Memorial Pool (901 Wythe St.) will be closed. For more information, visit alexandriava.gov/Aquatics.
Potomac Yard Park Interactive Fountain: The fountain at 2501 Potomac Ave. will be open Sept. 5 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Parking: On Sept. 5, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions for metered spaces, residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits. This suspension of enforcement does not permit parking in locations normally prohibited, such as "no parking" zones, loading zones or spaces for persons with disabilities. Temporary "no parking" signs will be enforced on Sept. 5.
Post offices: Closed on Sept. 5.
Recreation, nature and arts centers: Most city recreation, art and nature centers will be closed on Sept. 5, except the Torpedo Factory and Art Center, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. See the 2022 RPCA Recreation Center Holiday Operating Schedule for more information.
Trash and recycling: Residential trash, yard waste and recycling will not be collected Sept. 5. Collection services will be delayed by one day that week: Monday’s collection will be on Tuesday; Tuesday’s collection will be on Wednesday; Wednesday’s collection will be on Thursday; and Thursday’s collection will be on Friday.
