Will You Keep Wearing Mask On Public Transit? VA, DC Patch Survey
With a federal judge voiding a federal mask mandate, will you still wear a mask on public transportation in VA and DC? Take our survey.
VIRGINIA — A federal judge in Florida on Monday set aside the federal mask mandate for all forms of public transportation, affecting riders in the DC region.
Due to the judge's ruling, the Transportation Security Administration decided it will no longer enforce its directive requiring mask use on public transportation and transportation hubs, effective immediately. This means travelers no longer need to wear face masks on planes, buses, and ferries, or in transit centers, like airports and bus stations. According to CNBC, the Biden administration's Justice Department could seek an appeal of the judge's ruling.
In the DC region, Metro announced masks were optional on Metrorail, Metrobus and MetroAccess as well as for Metro employees. The mask mandate is also suspended on Virginia Railway Express, a commuter rail connecting the Northern Virginia suburbs with DC.

At Reagan National Airport and Dulles National Airport, masks are no longer required. Major domestic airlines have lifted their mask requirements, but select international destinations may still require masks.
Patch wants to know about your mask-wearing habits at this stage in the COVID-19 pandemic and if you will wear a mask on transit despite the end of mandates. The survey is open to our readers on Northern Virginia and DC Patch sites.
