FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — A man riding an electric bike was critically injured after he was shot Thursday evening in the Fair Oaks area, according to Fairfax County police.
Officers responded around 6 p.m. to the 12200 block of Sessile Commons, where the man was found with life-threatening injuries, police said. He was taken to a local hospital.
Police said the shooter fled the scene in a silver sedan. Detectives responded to investigate.
The shooting happened after a silver sedan followed the man on the electric bike into the West Oaks Corner community, according to a Fox 5 report. A witness told the station the driver appeared to be chasing the bicyclist. The bicyclist stopped, the driver got out, and the two exchanged words before the driver opened fire.
“I saw him with his gun and firing at him, trying to shoot him,” a witness told Fox 5 reporter Shomari Stone.
Officers from the Sully District and the Fugitive Tracking and Apprehension Team later located the armed shooter and took him into custody, police said in a 9:20 p.m. post on the department’s official X account.
Police have not released the identity of the suspect or whether charges were filed.
This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
