• Shopping Center, School Evacuated After SUV Crashes Into Gas Line In Fairfax County (patch.com) — Fairfax Station residents saw major disruption after an SUV hit a 12-inch gas line near Ox Road and Burke Centre Parkway, prompting evacuations at Fairview Elementary School and Burke Centre Shopping Center. Ox Road was shut in both directions and traffic rerouted while fire and police crews secured the leak and began pipeline repairs, with the driver hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.
   

• Pedestrian improvements added near Silverbrook Elementary in time for new school year (ffxnow.com) — New pedestrian safety upgrades at Silverbrook Road and Crosspointe Drive are now in place, improving walks to Silverbrook Elementary and nearby amenities for Fairfax Station-area families. After years of resident advocacy following a 2011 fatal crash involving a Fairfax Station resident, the county has added a refuge island, new crosswalks, and ADA-compliant curb ramps as part of a broader push for safer walking and biking routes.
