3rd Annual Martin Luther King Day March Returns To Falls Church
The third annual march celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. and the Little City's own civil rights history.

FALLS CHURCH, VA—The Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation and Social Justice Committee of Falls Church and Vicinity will honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the city's own civil rights history during its annual march. The third annual Martin Luther King Day March will be held Monday, Jan. 21.
The free event is a peaceful march through downtown Falls Church followed by a program at Falls Church Episcopal. The march lineup will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Tinner Hill Civil Rights Monument at South Washington Street and Tinner Hill Road (in front of Target). Participants will walk on Washington Street to the Falls Church Episcopal, 115 East Fairfax Street.
The program at the church will feature songs and tributes to Dr. King. The Social Justice Committee of Falls Church is organizing the program.

The following roads closures will be in effect at times between 12:45 p.m. and 2 p.m.
- S. Maple St., from the intersection at Tinner Hill Rd. to Annandale Rd.
- Annandale Rd., from the intersection at S. Maple St. to S. Washington St.
- S. Washington St., from the intersection of Annandale Rd. to E. Fairfax St.
- E. Fairfax St., from the intersection at S. Washington St. to Douglass Ave.
2018 was the 100-year anniversary In 1915, African American citizens led by Dr. E.B. Henderson and Joseph Tinner fought a segregation ordinance proposed by the Falls Church Town Council. Those leaders became part of the first rural branch of the NAACP in 1918. The Tinner Hill Heritage Foundation continues to preserve the city's civil rights history.
