4th of July Fireworks in Falls Church: Schedule, Parking and More Info

The city will also celebrate with music and a reading of the Declaration of Independence.

The city of Falls Church will celebrate Independence Day with its annual celebration and fireworks on the evening of Monday, July 4, at George Mason High School.

The celebration at the high school starts at 7 p.m. with a live musical performance. The fireworks will start at around 9:20 p.m. Seating is available at the Jack Gambill Athletic Fields or the Northern Virginia Graduate Center parking lot. In the event of rain, the event is scheduled for Tuesday, July 5, at the same time and location.

The event is free to the public. Blankets and flat-based chairs are allowed for seating on the field. Food and drinks will be sold on site, but alcohol, smoking, glass containers, fireworks and pets are not permitted.

Also, don’t miss the Independence Day Readings of the Founding Documents of the Nation. This event will take place at 12 noon Monday, July 4, in the Council Chambers of City Hall, at 300 Park Ave.

Hosted by the Village Preservation and Improvement Society (VPIS), this annual event allows us to focus on the meaning of Independence Day with a review of the issues of the times and the reading of the important documents that created the basis for our democracy and freedom.

How To Get to the Fireworks

George Mason High School is at 7124 Leesburg Pike (Route 7), next to Interstate 66. The best ways to get to the high school for the celebration are by walking or taking Metro to the West Falls Church station, a few blocks from the high school.

Drivers are reminded to heed towing warnings in nearby shopping centers and business parking lots; towing is usually enforced by the property owners or businesses. Parking also is not allowed along Broad Street/Route 7/Leesburg Pike, Haycock Road and other major arteries in the area.

Gates to the school campus will open at 6 p.m. Parking will be available on campus on a first-come, first-served basis. Handicapped parking will also be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the school campus. Enter from Haycock Road and show your placard; officers will direct vehicles.

Parking will be restricted within city limits near George Mason High School so that emergency vehicles can use residential streets. From 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, July 4, the following streets will have parking restricted to one side of the street only:

  • Grove Ave.
  • Birch St.
  • Spruce St.
  • Offut Dr.
  • Falls Ave.

Traffic restrictions will also be in place after the show. All visitors in vehicles are asked to heed police officers directing traffic:

  • No left turns at the intersection of Route 7 and Haycock Road/Shreve Road
  • No left turns out of the school campus onto Route 7
  • No left turn out of the school campus onto Haycock Road
  • No right turn out of the Metro entrances onto Haycock Road
  • When traveling on Haycock Road towards Great Falls Street, no turn onto Grove Avenue or Highland Avenue
