Man, 73, Shot In The Chest At A Falls Church ATM; Police Release Surveillance Video
Police are asking the public's help in identifying the person who shot a Falls Church man who had stopped at an ATM on his way to work.

Updated (5 p.m.): Fairfax County Police released surveillance video of Wednesday morning's shooting at an ATM in Falls Church.
FALLS CHURCH, VA — A 73-year-old Falls Church man was shot in the chest early Wednesday morning on his way to work. The shooting took place at 5:20 a.m. at an ATM in the 2900 block of Annandale Road.
"It wasn't but a matter of seconds when our 73-year-old victim was in front of that ATM machine that our shooter appeared, announced the robbery, produced a gun, and then shot our unresisting 73-year-old victim," said Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis, during a news conference later in the morning.

Although police are describing the incident as an apparent robbery, the suspect left the scene without any of the victim's belongings. The victim was found at 6:14 a.m. by a passing bicyclist.
Once rescue personnel and police arrived on the scene, the victim was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. At the time of the news conference, Davis said the victim had already undergone emergency surgery and remained in critical condition. Police have not released the victim's identity.

"It's horrific and it's isolated," he said. "The only other crimes that have occurred of late in this area are thefts from automobiles. Could he be part of that ring? We don't know yet."
Police released photos taken by the ATM's surveillance camera and will be releasing the video later in the day. They're also looking for other surveillance footage near where the shooting occurred.

FCPD is asking the public's help in identifying the suspect, who they say was wearing a backpack and a pair of sneakers, both of which Davis described as being "distinctive."

"We want people to look closely at the backpack," he said. "We want people to look closely at the shoes. Someone knows this gunman. A gunman attempts to rob our victim, our 73-year-old, which is despicable to even say, and the robbery resulted in our gunman shooting our 73-year-old victim in the chest."
Anyone with information about this incident or who can identify the suspect is asked to call the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 2. Anonymous information can also be submitted by calling 1-866-411-TIPS (8477), texting "FCCS" to 847411 or going to the Fairfax Crime Solvers website.
On Tuesday afternoon, police released ATM surveillance video of the shooting in the Falls Church area. The video shows the victim driving up, parking at the curb and walking up to the ATM.
