9 Virginia Employers Among Best For Diversity In U.S.: Forbes

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond is the best employer for diversity in Virginia, while Chicago-based investment company Northern Trust is No. 1 in the United States, according to a new set of rankings released by Forbes on Tuesday. Eight other Virginia companies made the list, including two other employers that ranked among the top 100.

To compile the rankings, Forbes worked with research firm Statista. Forbes explains that Statista surveyed 30,000 U.S. employers in August of last year, asking questions about diversity, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age and disability. Statista also looked at factors like the gender split of companies' management teams and boards and the gap in diversity perceptions at a company.

The Virginia employers that made the list are:

• No. 40, Virginia Commonwealth University, Education, Richmond
• No. 43, General Dynamics, Aerospace & Defense, Falls Church
• No. 72, SAIC, Business Services & Supplies, McLean
• No. 96, Northrop Grumman, Aerospace & Defense, Falls Church
• No. 114, Hilton, Travel & Leisure, McLean
• No. 159, Leidos, IT, Internet, Software & Services, Reston
• No. 176, Dominion Energy, Utilities, Richmond
• No. 195, Navy Federal Credit Union, Banking and Financial Services, Vienna
• No. 198, Capital One Financial, Banking and Financial Services, McLean
