Alexandria Pedestrian Dies After Bailey's Crossroads Crash
A man died in the hospital after being struck on the sidewalk in an Aug. 15 crash.

BAILEY'S CROSSROADS, VA — An Alexandria City man has died in the hospital after an Aug. 15 crash in Bailey's Crossroads, Fairfax County Police say.
The crash happened at Columbia Pike and Carlin Springs Road around 10 a.m. The victim, a pedestrian, was walking on a sidewalk near Columbia Pike when a westbound vehicle drove onto the sidewalk trying to avoid a vehicle. The vehicle struck the pedestrian, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
The victim was taken to the hospital and died late last week, about a week after the crash. He was identified as Solomon Zelelew, 39.

The driver remained at the scene to cooperate with police. Detectives do not believe speed or alcohol factored into the crash.
