Alternative To Fireworks Planned For Fourth Of July In Falls Church
While fireworks are not planned in Falls Church, residents can enjoy several Independence Day activities.
FALLS CHURCH, VA — The Independence Day celebration in Falls Church will be different this year as alternatives to fireworks are planned.
The city can no longer host a fireworks display due to safety guidelines. The display was last held in 2019 at George Mason High School. Now the renamed Meridian High School is on a new site, and the old high school site will become a mixed-use development.
While there will be no fireworks in Falls Church, the city will hold activities on Sunday, July 3 and Monday, July 4. On Sunday, July 3 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., residents can join a scavenger hunt to find letters hidden in and around three parks. Clues on where the letters are hidden will be posted on the City of Falls Church social media and website at www.fallschurchva.gov/IndependenceDay. After determining which park the clues are at, visit the park to find the letter. Participants can write down the letter at each location on a tracking sheet. Completed tracking sheets can be turned in at Cherry Hill Shelter to receive a special treat.

After the scavenger hunt, head to Cherry Hill Park for the weekly concert in the park. At 5 p.m., the Quantico Marine Corps Band will perform. The Quantico Marine Corps Band is one of the oldest professional musical ensembles in the Marine Corps and plays hundreds of shows each year. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and a picnic. The event will be rain or shine.
On Monday, July 4 at 12 p.m., the next event will be the Falls Church Village Preservation and Improvement Society's annual reading of the Declaration of Independence. The event will be held in City Council Chambers (City Hall, 300 Park Ave.)
