Association for Healthcare Philanthropy​ Welcomes New Board Chairman

Randy Varju has been elected to chair the Foundation Board of Trustees of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy of Falls Church.

From Association for Healthcare Philanthropy: Randy Varju, FAHP, CFRE, president of the Advocate Charitable Foundation and chief development officer for Advocate Health Care, has been elected to chair the Foundation Board of Trustees of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP).

“I am truly honored to step in to this leadership role at such a transformative time in our industry,” said Varju. “Through collaboration and innovation, I believe my fellow trustees and I will be able to promote and expand the impacts of philanthropy across the health care sector.”

AHP is an international professional organization dedicated to developing the fundraisers who encourage charity for nonprofit hospitals and health care institutions. The association’s 5,000 members represent more than 2,200 health care organizations in North America and abroad, raising more than $10 billion each year for community health services.

The 2016-2017 Foundation Board of Trustees is charged with promoting charitable and educational objectives, providing continuing education and engaging in health care development research, investigations, analysis and studies.

Randy Varju has executive responsibility for the vision, planning, implementation and management of charitable giving and fundraising for all Advocate hospitals, and system-wide development initiatives. He has served the not-for-profit sector in development roles for 27 years, initially in the human services sector with Easter Seals and United Way and later in higher education with institutional advancement for Lewis University.

In 1999, he moved to the health care sector, joining Advocate Charitable Foundation as vice president for development for South Suburban Hospital. In 2002, he transitioned to Advocate Christ Medical Center and Hope Children’s Hospital as vice president of development. Prior to his current role, Varju served as executive development officer for the Advocate Charitable Foundation, leading the development efforts for the Advocate Health Care’s 12 hospitals.
