Bailey's Crossroads House Fire Turns Fatal, 10 Displaced

The cause of the early Sunday fire remains under investigation, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

BAILEY'S CROSSROADS, VA — One person died in a Bailey's Crossroads house fire early Sunday, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. Ten total residents were displaced from the home.

Fairfax County, Arlington County and Alexandria firefighters responded to the home in the 5800 block of Arnet Street around 1:04 a.m. on Sunday. Units found smoke showing from the top floor of the two-story home. Some units began tackling the fire, while others conducted a search of the home. Firefighters located one person on the second floor.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. The medical examiner will confirm the victim's identity and cause of death.

A neighbor had initially discovered the fire and called for help. Seven other residents evacuated before the fire department response. Smoke alarms were present on the first floor, but it is unclear if they activated.

Investigators say the fire started in a second floor bedroom, but the cause remains under investigation. Damages were estimated to be around $93,750.
