Meeting Program & Speaker:
"Gardens Without Borders: A Holistic Approach to Sustainable Gardening at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill"
With Steve Conoway, PhD, Director of Horticulture, New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill
This month brings us another “Great Garden of the World” – The New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill was rated the best botanical garden in the US from a 2023 poll on the Travel Awaits website.
Steve Conaway will share the formative horticultural experiences that shaped his approach to sustainable garden care: from working on New England subsistence farms, to tropical plant pathology, and public gardens across the Northeast. He presents a holistic framework for garden design, planning, and maintenance that informs his approach as Director of Horticulture.
Steve will explore how ecological awareness and adaptable stewardship practices can
create resilient, beautiful landscapes at any scale. Participants will gain practical insights into how the guiding principles used in a complex botanic garden environment can be distilled and applied to home gardens, supporting healthier ecosystems and more intentional, connected gardening.

The Falls Church Garden Club is a community of gardeners who enjoy sharing knowledge, plants, and snacks. Our desire to learn more about gardening unites us.
The club meets ten months of the year, with a garden tour, a plant swap, club outings, and a large annual plant sale, which is open to the public. We maintain a native plant garden along the W&OD bike trail and donate to other community-serving organizations.
While anyone anywhere is welcome to join our club, most members tend gardens within or just outside the city of Falls Church. More broadly, our gardens are in Northern Virginia, Zone 7.
Whether you have a large, small, or container garden, or just wish for a garden, you will find a place with us. All experience levels are welcome!
