Cat Perishes Tuesday in Falls Church Area Fire
Home on Holmes Run Road was completely destroyed, displacing two people, according to fire officials. There were no other injuries.

A cat died in a house fire Tuesday in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. There were no other injuries.
The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department Units responded Tuesday, at about 11 a.m. to a single-family home on fire in the 3000 block of Holmes Run Road.
Firefighters saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear deck and roof of the two-story home when they got there. Firefighters hit the fire hard with both an exterior and interior fire attack, they noted.

It took them more than an hour to bring the fire under control, they said. The home contained an overwhelming amount of household items and other combustibles making it challenging for firefighters to extinguish what they called a “deep seated” fire.
One person who was home when the fire broke out escaped unharmed, fire officials said. Two people were displaced by the fire; they declined assistance from Red Cross.

The home is a total loss and fire officials are trying to determine what caused the fire.
