Christmas 2017: What's Open, Closed In Falls Church

FALLS CHURCH, VA—As families get a break from work and school for the Christmas holiday, many services will be closed around the holiday. While everything is typically not open Christmas Day, many will be closed the Friday prior as well.

City of Falls Church offices will close at noon Friday, Dec. 22 and most will reopen Wednesday, Dec. 27. Fairfax County offices will be closed Friday, Dec. 22 and Monday, Dec. 25. Other services such as public transportation and recreation centers will run on different schedules.

Here are the openings/closings to be aware of around Christmas.

City of Falls Church Offices: Open until noon Dec. 22. Closed Dec. 23-26. All will reopen Dec. 27 except the Department of Development Services.

Fairfax County Offices: Closed Friday and Monday.

Schools and Administrative Offices: Falls Church City Schools closed after 12:10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22 through Jan. 2. Fairfax County schools closed Dec. 18 through Jan. 1.

State Offices: Commonwealth of Virginia offices in Fairfax County and Arlington County will be closed 25 and 26, including Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. The courts will close at noon Friday, Dec. 22.

Fairfax County Animal Shelter: Closed Monday.

Community Centers: Falls Church Community Center closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. On Dec. 26, it will have holiday hours from 8:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) programs, activities and facilities will be closed Dec. 22-25.

Fairfax Connector and Fastran: Fairfax Connector bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Christmas Day. See www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector/ for more information. Fastran will not operate on Friday and Monday.

Libraries: Mary Riley Styles Public Library closed noon Dec. 22-Dec. 26. Fairfax County libraries closed Dec. 22 and Dec. 25.

Metrorail: On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Metrorail will open at 8 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. Trains will operate on a Sunday schedule on both days, with off-peak fares in effect and free parking at Metro-operated lots and garages.

Metrobus: Information available at www.wmata.com

Parking: Parking is free at park and ride locations and Metro parking lots.

Fairfax County Parks: Closed Christmas Day. See hours for specific parks at fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/holiday-hours.

Recreation Centers: All Fairfax County rec centers except George Washington RECenter are open regular hours on Christmas Eve. All are closed Christmas Day.

Recycling: I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax) and I-95 Landfill (9850 Furnace Road, Lorton) will closed at 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve and be closed Christmas Day.

Trash Pickup: Contact individual Fairfax County and private service providers for holiday hours.
