City Invites Residents to Try Out New Recycling Station

Bring old bicycle tires, cell phones and more to a recycling center at City Hall.

By Ben Joyce

The City of Falls Church invites residents to take advantage of a new recycling station on the first floor of the West Wing of City Hall, 300 Park Ave., closest to Cherry Hill Farmhouse.

Inner tubes and bicycle tires will be accepted at that location, along with cell phones and rechargeable batteries, which can also be dropped off at the sheriff's office and the police department.

While non-rechargeable and wet-cell batteries will not be taken, nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium ion, nickel zinc and small sealed lead acid batteries weighing less than 11 pounds will be accepted, as well as any size, make, model or age cell phone, with or without its battery.

The city reminds residents that fossil fuels and metals are non-renewable resources, and fewer will have to be extracted as more products are recycled.

The twice-yearly Recycling Extravaganza is Sept. 7, when all the aforementioned items can be recycled, as well as many others, such as printer cartridges, hearing aids, eyeglasses, clothing and textiles. More information for that event can be found here.
