Cockroaches In The Kitchen: Falls Church Restaurant Violations

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Fairfax County regularly conducts health inspections for local restaurants in the county and Falls Church City. The frequency of inspections on the type of food served and how it is prepared.

“In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations,” states the Virginia Department of Health’s website.

Here are some of the violations from recent inspections in the last weeks of July. Among the violations were cockroaches found near a food prep table. This is a repeat violation, and the restaurant must follow up with a pest control service.

violations: employee not washing hands before putting on gloves after using phone, employee washing hands without soap, foods measured too warm sitting out at room temperature, handsink used to store dishes

Hong Kong Express: 6343 Columbia Pike, Falls Church, VA 22041, last inspection: July 24

violations: uncovered food in refrigerator, improper method of thawing chicken, foods cold holding at improper temperatures, dishes not sanitized, cockroaches near prep table

Las Americans Restaurant: 3103-A Graham Rd, Falls Church, VA 22042, last inspection: July 25

violations: potential cross contamination of raw foods, raw/undercooked foods on menu without disclosure, black mold inside ice machine

Ledo Pizza: 7510 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 22043, last inspection: July 24

violations: uncovered food, food containers without labels, milk in cooler observed at improper temperature, cooler not operating properly, intake and exhaust ducts not cleaned frequently enough
