Columbus Day 2018: What's Open, Closed In Falls Church

The city has several closures in recognition of Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day.

FALLS CHURCH, VA—On Monday, Oct. 8, the City of Falls Church will recognize both Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day.

In September, the City Council passed a resolution recognizing Indigenous Peoples' Day. The day recognizes the contributions and struggles of indigenous people in America. The city said in a statement Columbus Day recognizes the contributions of Christopher Columbus and Italian Americans. Having the two holidays on the same day is meant to foster understanding about the meaning of both.

Columbus Day is considered a state and federal holiday, but meaning government offices and other services will be closed. Other services may be open or run on a different schedule.
