Delivery Truck Catches Fire In Merrifield

The fire couldn't be put out until the power company addressed an electrical hazard.

A delivery truck fire caught fire near a building in Merrifield Wednesday, complicated further by an electrical hazard. No one was injured.

Around 7:21 a.m. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue units responded to the 2800 block of Hartland Road for a report of a box-type delivery truck on fire. The truck was near a towing and recovery storage lot and had flames reaching near the tree line.

Firefighters identified an electrical hazard involving high-voltage arcing between the front of the truck and metal objects in the ground. For this reason, the fire couldn't be put out until the electricity was turned off. Crews set up an exclusion area to keep firefighters and residents safe until the power company arrived.
