Diesel Fuel Spill Prompts Cleanup In Merrifield Area
Most of the spill was contained, but small amounts left in drains and creeks, according to the fire department.

MERRIFIELD, VA—A Fairfax County Fire and Rescue hazmat team responded to a diesel fuel spill Thursday in the Merrifield area.
Units responded to the 3200 block of Gallows Road around noon and identified around 3,700 gallons of spilled fuel. The hazmat team isolated the leak to the property, but small amounts of fuel left the property through stormwater drains and creeks that flow toward Holmes Run and Lake Barcroft, according to Battalion Chief Marty Ranck. These drains and creeks head toward Holmes Run and Lake Barcroft.
"There is no immediate hazard to the residents at this time," said Ranck in a video update.
