Downed Power Lines Complicate Lake Barcroft Fire
Firefighters had to wait for the downed power lines to be turned off before putting out the Jan. 5 fire in Lake Barcroft.

LAKE BARCROFT, VA—Fire investigators have determined the cause of the Jan. 5 Lake Barcroft fire, but that wasn't the scariest part of the fire. It turns out firefighters couldn't immediately extinguish the fire due to downed power wires around the home.
Firefighters had to wait until the power company cut off power to extinguish the fire in the 6300 block of Cavalier Corridor. Fairfax County and Arlington firefighters responded to the blaze in a carport around 1:12 p.m. Friday.
Fire investigators say improperly discarded smoking materials started the fire in the carport. One person was home when the fire started and escaped without injuries. The smoke alarms appeared to be working properly.
