Falls Church, Annandale Men Killed In Fairfax County Pedestrian Crashes

Fairfax County police said the crashes occurred Thursday in Seven Corners and Merrifield.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Two pedestrians died in separate crashes Thursday in Fairfax County, according to police.

The first crash occurred around 6:03 p.m. near Seven Corners, Fairfax County police said in a statement. Officers responded to the area of Leesburg Pike and Munson Hill Road after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.

Preliminary findings from police indicate Sean King, 38, of Falls Church, was walking on a sidewalk along the service road in the 6000 block of Leesburg Pike when a 2008 Toyota Prius left the roadway, crossed a curb and struck him.

King was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

Detectives said speed and alcohol do not appear to have been factors. The reason the vehicle left the roadway remains under investigation.

About three hours later, officers responded to the intersection of Gallows Road and Strawberry Lane in Merrifield for another pedestrian crash.

Investigators said Jose Sorto Medrano, 68, of Annandale, was crossing Gallows Road outside a crosswalk when a southbound 2022 BMW X5 struck him.

Sorto Medrano was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died. The driver remained at the scene.

Police said speed and alcohol do not appear to have been factors for the driver. Detectives believe alcohol was a factor for the pedestrian.

The Fairfax County Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating both crashes.
