Falls Church Library Sets Closing Date Ahead Of Renovation

FALLS CHURCH, VA — After City Council's Monday vote to approve a construction contract for the Mary Riley Styles Public Library expansion project, the library announced its tentative schedule for moving to a temporary location.

The library at North Virginia and Park Avenues will close on Feb. 17 for packing, moving, and setting up the temporary location. An opening date hasn't been announced for the temporary location in trailers at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, 601 South Oak Street. The library is aiming for opening in early or mid-March.

The library will be at the temporary location until May 2021, when the renovated library is expected to reopen.

Due dates will be extended into March, and returns cannot be made at the 120 North Virginia Avenue location and drive-thru book drop after Feb. 28. Once the temporary location opens, returns will only happen there. Patrons will not be able to place holds beginning on Feb. 11 until the temporary location opens.

The temporary location will offer a selection of books, periodicals and other media, as well as programs like book discussion groups, ESL Conversation Groups, and storytime with some changes. Details will be posted at www.fallschurchva.gov/2037/Temporary-Location.

The hours at the temporary location will be revised due to the nearby school. It will be open 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Library patrons will be able to park on the street while following posted signs.
