Falls Church Primary Election 2019: Candidates, Things To Know

The primary election will happen on June 11. We have the details on candidates, polling locations and more.

FALLS CHURCH, VA—The 2019 primary election is coming up on June 11. In the City of Falls Church, the Democratic primary election will determine candidates for the November general election; the Republican party has opted to choose candidates without a primary election. Democratic primaries include the 35th Virginia Senate district and Commonwealth's Attorney for Arlington County and Falls Church.

The Nov. 5 general election ballot will include the 35th Virginia senate seat, 53rd Virginia House of Delegates seat, Commonwealth's Attorney, three Falls Church City Council seats and three Falls Church school board seats. All positions have four-year-terms, with the exception of a two-year term for the Virginia House of Delegates.

Below are other things to know about the primary election.

1. Know if you're registered to vote

The registration deadline to vote in the primary was May 20. The deadline for the Nov. 5 general election will be Oct. 14. To check your voter registration, visit vote.elections.virginia.gov.

2. Know absentee voting deadlines

If you're voting absentee, the deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed for the June 11 primary is 5 p.m. on June 4. In-person absentee voting is available on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Office of Elections in City Hall, 300 Park Avenue. The last day to vote is Saturday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

3. Know where and when to vote on Election Day

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on June 11, and those in line at 7 p.m. will be able to vote. Find your polling place and related information online at vote.elections.virginia.gov.

The three polling places in the City of Falls Church are:

  • Ward 1: Thomas Jefferson School, 601 South Oak Street
  • Ward 2: Falls Green Apartments (formerly Oakwood Apartments), 501 Roosevelt Boulevard
  • Ward 3: Falls Church Community Center, 223 Little Falls Street

4. Remember your photo ID

In Virginia, an acceptable form of photo identification is required to vote in person.

This can include:

  • Virginia driver’s license
  • Virginia DMV-issued photo ID
  • United States passport
  • Employer-issued photo ID
  • Student photo ID issued by a school, college, or university located in Virginia
  • Other U.S. or Virginia government-issued photo ID
  • Tribal enrollment or other tribal photo ID
  • Virginia Voter Photo ID card

Voters who do not have photo ID can cast a provisional ballot.
