Falls Church Schools Offer Assistance For Furloughed Workers

The school district has jobs and other help for families of federal employees during the government shutdown.

FALLS CHURCH, VA—Falls Church City Public Schools has announced ways it will help furloughed federal workers and their families during the government shutdown.

Substitute teacher and school bus driver are among the positions FCCPS has available. Those interested in substitute teaching can contact HR Director Amy Hall at 703-248-5600. Those interested in the school bus driver position should contact Transportation at 703-248-5537. Applicants can also check job listings on FCCPS's website.

The school district said it will be flexible will payment deadlines for tuition and day care payments until the furlough ends. Contact tuition assistance in the Budget & Finance Office at 703-248-5620 and day care at 703-248-5683.

Because the furlough is considered a change in income, impacted families can apply to get free and reduced lunch. FCCPS will be expediting the application process, and approval will take about a day. Students will also be allowed to accumulate a negative balance for lunch until the furlough ends.

Families experiencing temporary or long-term financial hardships can receive support from school social workers. The social workers can connect families to resources for food, child care, rent, utilities and medical expenses. Families should contact the social worker at their child's school:
