Falls Church Summer Camps Range From Sports To Modern Art

Falls Church summer camp registration begins Feb. 14 for city residents, with activities that include sports, science, gaming and the arts.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Falls Church summer camp registration begins Monday, Feb. 14 for residents of the city, with activities that range from sports camps to science to dancing. Non-city residents can sign up for summer camps starting Feb. 22.

Each year, the Falls Church Recreation and Parks Department puts together an array of camp offerings. Among this year's highlights are Minecraft Masters the week of June 27, LEGO Robotics Extreme Machine the weeks of July 4 and Aug. 8, The Great Food Truck Race the week of July 18, Outdoor Adventure the week of Aug. 1 and Disney Hip-Hop Camp the week of Aug. 15.

Another camp, the Summer Fun Playground camp, is for rising 1st through 6th graders. It operates for eight weeks from June 21 through Aug. 12. Campers get to enjoy sports, arts and crafts, games, special events, and a weekly field trip or entertainment visit to the camp.

The camp runs Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is located at Cherry Hill Park. A Summer Fun Parent Orientation will be held on Tuesday, June 7.

Among the health and safety practices adopted for the 2022 summer camp programs are enrollment maximums that allow social distancing, the wearing of face coverings by all campers and staff when indoors, and thorough cleaning of all camp spaces and equipment.

Campers will need to bring a lunch with drink and an afternoon snack daily. There is no refrigeration.

Residents can also apply to be a counselor in training, who are assigned to the Summer Fun Playground Camp and assist counselors and the camp director with daily activities such as preparing arts and crafts projects and supervising and assisting campers with activities.

Applications to be a counselor in training are due March 31. Applicants must be at least 13-years-old by June 21.

City of Falls Church Recreation and Parks has put together a comprehensive guide that includes everything you need to know about the 2022 summer camp programs. Starting Feb. 14, the public can go online to register for any of the Falls Church summer camps.
