Falls Church's Memorial Day Parade: Recap And Winners

In case you missed Monday's Memorial Day Parade in Falls Church, here are the winners and other highlights.

FALLS CHURCH, VA -- More than 10,000 people came out to see Falls Church's Memorial Day Parade and participate in a day of activities Monday. But in case you missed it, here are the parade winners:

  • Best Marching Band (High School): George C. Marshall "Marching Statesmen"
  • Best Marching Band (Professional): Batala Washington
  • Best Marching, Walking Group/Unit: South Lakes School Army ROTC
  • Best Youth Group: Cub Scout Pack 657
  • Best Float: Kena Shrine Temple
  • Best Classic or Antique Car or Truck: Bikenetic - Full-Service Bicycle Shop
  • Best Emergency/Fire Vehicle: Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department
  • Best Military Group: Greater Falls Church Veterans Council

Before the parade kicked off, the city took time to honor those that have served in a Veterans Ceremony. The keynote speaker was state Sen. Bryce Reeves (R-Spotsylvania) who served in the Army and as an Airborne Ranger, and is running for lieutenant governor in the primary election.

The event drew a number of politicians as the state heads into the June 13 primary.

Other highlights of the day were the Don Beyer Volvo 3K Fun Run, vendors and activities at City Hall and Cherry Hill Park and musical performances.

"The City sends a special thank you to members of the Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department who were on hand to provide first aid to anyone in need," said event manager Chris Madison in a statement. "We also could not have had such a memorable event without Grand Marshal Barb Cram, ceremony and parade participants, parade judges, vendors, sponsors, and everyone who attended."

But don't worry if you missed the parade, because it will be available to watch on multiple platforms. Falls Church Community Television recorded the parade and will post it on YouTube. It will also broadcast on FCCTV (Cox channel 11, RCN channel 2, and Verizon channel 35). The schedule is to be announced.

The event, one of the Little City's biggest of the year, was coordinated by the city's Recreation and Parks Department and volunteers. Sponsoring organizations included Bath Fitter, Beyer Auto, Communikids, Cricket Wireless, Falls Church News-Press, Homefix Custom Remodeling, Kitchen Saver, Leaf Filter, Mosquito Shield, Nu Look Home Design, Passanante's Home Food Services, Prince William Home Improvement and Transnational Corporation.
