Falls Church Fourth Of July 2017 Fireworks, Weather Update

Here's what you need to know about Falls Church's Fourth of July festivities.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Falls Church will mark the Fourth of July with fireworks and other activities throughout the day.

The day will begin with readings of the Declaration of Independence and other documents written by the Founding Fathers. It is hosted by the Village Preservation and Improvement Society at City Hall (330 Park Ave.) as a reminder of the meaning of the holiday.

WEATHER UPDATE: The weather forecast is a bit dicey. NBC Washington's Chuck Bell says storms will be a bit more likely south and west of the D.C. Metro area; he says rain is most likely between 2 and 7 p.m., but fireworks should be dry. The National Weather Service calls for scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Look for mostly cloudy skies with a high near 93. The chance of precipitation is 40 percent. The chance of scattered rain showers before 2 am creeps up to 50 percent. Skies tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 73.

Later, at George Mason High School (7124 Leesburg Pike) the celebration will kickoff with a classic rock performance by The Darby Brothers at 7 p.m. The night will culminate in a fireworks show at 9:20 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Food trucks including Margaret's Soul Food and Los Wingeez, as well as ice cream, popcorn and lemonade will be available for sale.

The event will affect parking and traffic in the city. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Grove Avenue, Birch Street, Spruce Street, Offut Drive and Falls Avenue will limit parking to one side of the street. In addition, police will direct traffic after the event. Drivers should follow these traffic restrictions

  • No left turns at the intersection of West Broad St./Route 7 and Haycock Road/Shreve Road
  • No left turns out of the school campus onto West Broad Street/Route 7
  • No left turn out of the school campus onto Haycock Road
  • No right turn out of the Metro entrances onto Haycock Road
  • When traveling on Haycock Road towards Great Falls Street, no turn onto Grove Avenue or Highland Avenue

On Independence Day, Falls Church could see thunderstorms any time from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with highs in the 90s and lows in the 70s. Patch will update this article up through the Fourth of July. Follow the city's Facebook, and Twitter for updated information that evening.
