Health Clinic Serving Bailey’s Crossroads Moves to Expand Service

Ribbon Cutting for Culmore Clinic's New Location April 9th

February 26, 2019 - (Falls Church, VA) - Starting Tuesday, April 9th, Culmore Clinic will see patients at their new host site at First Christian Church of Falls Church (FCCFC) (6165 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA). Less than a mile away from their current location, this move will continue a long-standing partnership with FCCFC. A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new location will be held on Tuesday, April 9th. The Interfaith Dedication and Ribbon Cutting will start at 8am, with Coffee and Tours of the new space from 9am to 10am.

Founded by a group of interfaith volunteers, healthcare providers, and donors, Culmore Clinic has offered compassionate medical care, counseling services as well as specialty referrals to low-income adults in the Bailey’s Crossroads community in Falls Church, Virginia d since 2007. For the last 8 years they have been operating their two-day healthcare clinic from Columbia @ Crossroads Baptist Church. At this location, they have grown exponentially and were named as "One of the Best Nonprofits" by Catalogue for Philanthropy.

The new site at FCCFC will permit Culmore Clinic to add a third operating day to their regular schedule, increasing and improving patient services around technology, infrastructure, and office operation. “This third day will allow Culmore Clinic to augment primary care with health classes, on-site blood draws, testing, medication distribution and pharmaceutical counseling, breaking barriers of transportation, language and finances for our neighbors in need,” says Interim Executive Director, Allison Colby.

Access to healthcare continues to be a crisis. Fifty-seven percent (57%) of Bailey’s Crossroads residents are uninsured. Barriers to accessing medical care are legion. Affordability, language, and documentation are just a few examples. Culmore Clinic is dedicated to responding to this crisis with an interfaith approach, and has been from their founding.

Culmore Clinic is what resulted after 2 Catholic women began talking to neighboring congregations about the staggering uninsured rate of adults in their community. The health clinic was first opened in a mosque, then moved to a county facility, and then, with the help of Anglicans, moved to a Baptist church where it operates today. Now, in April, it will move to a Disciples of Christ congregation.
