How Falls Church Ranks Among Safest Cities In Virginia

The study cites property and violent crimes reported in Falls Church.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — A new study places Falls Church among the safest cities in the state. Falls Church ranked 13th on Security Baron's list of Safest Cities in Virginia.

Security Barson, a security-focused website for consumers, used the FBI’s 2017 and 2016 Uniform Crime Reporting data to determine the rankings. This data included rates of murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, theft, vehicle theft and arson. The median income also factors into the results. Each city receives an overall safety score and ranking.

Falls Church earned a safety score of 81.84 with a violent crime rate of 0.7 per 1,000 people and 14.9 property crimes per 1,000 people. During the timeframe used for the study, violent and property crime trended downward.

Falls Church's neighbor to the west Vienna earned fourth place in the ranking. Other Northern Virginia cities near the top included Dumfries, Manassas Park, Herndon and Fairfax City. The top city in the list was Bridgewater in Rockingham County. The city had a safety score of 91.08 with just 1.96 property crimes per 1,000 people and 0.16 violent crimes per 1,000 citizens. Petersburg was ranked last (50th) on the list with 7.94 violent crimes and 34.03 property crimes per 1,000 people.
