Hygiene Kits and Baby Bundles Will Help Meet Basic Needs

Assistance League Members Pack Items for Students and New Moms

Seventeen wonderful members of Assistance League of Northern Virginia met recently to assemble packages of hygiene products and baby items. They packed 400 toiletry kits that will be distributed to 5th and 6th-grade students at local schools in connection with their hygiene lessons. Each kit contained a washcloth, soap, shampoo, deodorant, comb, hairbrush, toothpaste, and toothbrush. The social worker at a school that will receive the hygiene kits said: “We are so appreciative of anything you all can do. This is amazing! Thank you so much."

Last month, the nonprofit received a donation from Rebecca Hall and RBH Global Wealth Partners to purchase the washcloths for the hygiene kits to be distributed this fall. Then, Assistance League’s savvy shoppers tracked down a very sweet deal and realized that, with some additional funding, it could purchase ALL the washcloths needed this school year. That’s when Dr. Lincoln German and the Spine Care of Manassas Chiropractic Center stepped up and provided funds to purchase the remainder. The donations from the two businesses allowed for the purchase of all the washcloths needed for the schools’ hygiene kits this year. Both Dr. German and RBH have been reliable supporters of Assistance League for many years and the nonprofit is grateful for their continued generosity.

Assistance League members also assembled 58 packages of baby items. The “Baby Bundles” contained handmade blankets and hats, new clothing items, board books for the new moms to read to their babies, and educational material in English and Spanish on preventing SIDS. Most of the crocheted and knitted blankets and hats were made by the Dunbarton Hugs Team in Bristow and the Nativity Church Craft Club in Burke. Both groups have supported our programs for many years by creating and donating such priceless items. In addition, several Assistance League members made and donated lovely blankets and bib sets that were included in the packages. The Baby Bundles were delivered to a local clinic that serves several hundred low-income families each week and that has partnered with the nonprofit for more than 20 years.
