Infant Nearly Drowns In Falls Church Pool: Police

A lifeguard rescued the baby and an adult from an apartment building's pool, according to police.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — A man and an infant nearly drowned in a Falls Church apartment pool on Saturday, July 20, according to Falls Church Police.

Around 6:16 p.m., police responded to Broadfalls Apartments at 809 West Broad Street to assist rescue personnel. The on-duty lifeguard pulled the man and a baby out of the pool before they would have drowned. The baby was taken to Fairfax Hospital and released afterward.

The man involved "became combative" with police and rescue personnel and was arrested, according to police. Keith Lawrence Ballard, 29, of Burke, was charged with five counts of assault and battery, obstruction of justice, drunk in public, and child neglect.
