Labor Day 2018: What's Open, Closed In Falls Church

Here are the closings to be aware of during the end-of-summer holiday in Falls Church.

FALLS CHURCH, VA—Whether you're ready or not, the unofficial end of summer is approaching. The Labor Day holiday weekend might be some consolation for the end of your summer relaxation, but that means some services will be shut down for the long weekend (Sept. 1-3).

City of Falls Church and Fairfax County offices and public schools will be closed Monday, Sept. 3. However, services like the recreation centers, parks and Metro will be open, although on a different schedule.

Here are the openings/closings and local events to know for Labor Day:

City of Falls Church and Fairfax County Offices: Closed on Labor Day.

State Offices: Commonwealth of Virginia offices in Fairfax County and Arlington County will be closed on Labor Day.

Falls Church City and Fairfax County Public Schools: Closed Labor Day.

Community Centers: The Falls Church Community Center is closed Sept. 2-3. Fairfax County community centers are closed on Labor Day.

Fairfax Connector and Fastran: Fairfax Connector bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Labor Day. See www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector/ for more information. Fastran will not operate on Labor Day.

Libraries: Mary Riley Styles Public Library and Fairfax County libraries are closed on Labor Day.

Metrorail: The system will be open 8 a.m.-11 p.m. and operate on a Sunday schedule. Parking will be free at all Metro parking facilities, and off-peak fares will be in effect all day. See track work that may cause delays during the weekend.

Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule. See bus timetables.

Parking: Parking is free at park and ride locations and Metro parking lots.

Fairfax County Parks: Colvin Run Mill and Sully Historic Site are open 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond and Huntley Meadows are open noon-5 p.m. Riverbend Park's visitor center is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Frying Pan Farm Park farm is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m., the visitor center is closed and indoor arena is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Green Spring Gardens Horticultural Center is open noon-4:30 p.m. For more information, visit fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/holiday-hours.

Fairfax County Recreation Centers: All recreation centers are open at the regular time to 6 p.m. except George Washington RECenter, which is closed.

Recycling: I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax) and I-95 Landfill (9850 Furnace Road, Lorton) are open on Labor Day.

Trash and Recycling: City of Falls Church trash pickup happens on Wednesdays. Contact individual Fairfax County and private service providers for holiday hours.
