League of Women Voters Hosts Sept 18 Forum on Proposed "Right to Work" State Constitutional Amendment

Voters will be asked to decide on Nov. 8 whether the state's Constitution should be amended - get informed about both sides of this issue.

The League of Women Voters of Falls Church will host a forum Sunday September 18 to review a proposed amendment to the Virginia Constitution regarding so-called “right-to-work” laws. The forum will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Falls Church Community Center, 223 Little Falls Street.

Currently, state law prohibits labor agreements that make membership in a union or organization a condition of employment. On the November 8 ballot, Virginia voters will be asked whether the state’s Constitution should be amended to incorporate similar language.

The LWV forum will feature Stanley Greer, senior research associate for the National Institute for Labor Relations Research and editor of the “National Right to Work Committee Newsletter”; and Daniel Duncan, executive secretary-treasurer of the Maritime Trades Department of the AFL-CIO. After the speakers make brief presentations, the forum will be opened up for comments, questions and discussion.
