Mad Fox Brewing Company To Close In Falls Church

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Mad Fox Brewery, a staple in Falls Church for nearly a decade, will close after Sunday, July 21.

Bill Madden, the CEO and executive brewer, announced the closure in a Facebook post. He cited the opening of multiple businesses in recent years, including two new taprooms. Madden says Mad Fox had been working on a new agreement with the landlord and bank, but there wasn't an opportunity to break even.

"As much as we tried to compete, there are an overwhelming number of choices for the local population," reads Madden's post. "Sales have been on a slow decline over the last several years and, unfortunately, staying open is no longer sustainable."

Numerous events are planned for the final weeks, including a ninth anniversary party on Saturday, July 13 at 11 a.m. The brewpub will serve up seven rare beer selections and provide live music from Radio NV, an anniversary glass giveaway and cake.

Mad Fox Brewing Company opening in 2010, when Madden says there were 40 breweries in Virginia. Now that number is closer to 250. Last year, Mad Fox closed its taproom in the Glover Park neighborhood of DC.

The brewpub known for its handcrafted brews accompanied by a food menu. Mad Fox brews have won awards from the Great American Beer Festival in addition to the Virginia Beer Cup.

On the support from patrons, Madden said, "We have celebrated christenings, birthdays, weddings, retirements and many holiday gatherings. You, our guests, along with our spectacular Mad Fox team have enabled us to build tremendous notoriety over 9 years in business. I thank you for allowing Mad Fox to be a part of your lives."
