Man Opened Fire Into Crowd Outside Business In West Falls Church Area

WEST FALLS CHURCH, VA — A man opened fire on a crowd outside a business in the West Falls Church area early Saturday, leading to charges, according to Fairfax County Police.

Police had responded around 1:51 a.m. Saturday to the 7700 block of Lee Highway. Two victims with gunshot wounds were found in the parking lot, including one with an arm wound and one with an abdomen wound.

Around 3:39 a.m., police were notified of another person at the hospital who had a gunshot wound to the arm. Detectives determined the third person was present at the shooting.

All three victims were treated for their injuries at the hospital.

Detectives' investigation determined a suspect approached a group of men outside a business. When one of the men assaulted the suspect, police say he opened fire into a crowd outside the business before fleeing on foot.

The suspect, Jorge Armando Melendez Gonzalez, 25, of Falls Church, was arrested Sunday night by an Arlington County SWAT team. He was charged with three counts of felony malicious wounding and three counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
