Memorial Day 2023: What's Open, Closed Around Falls Church

As we remember U.S. military personnel on Memorial Day, various facilities and services will be closed or modified for the holiday.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Many services, agencies and government offices in Falls Church will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day.

The holiday is a time to remember those who have died serving in the U.S. armed forces as well as a kickoff to the summer season. A Falls Church Memorial Day Ceremony will be hosted by the Greater Falls Church Veterans Council at 11 a.m. on May 29 before the Memorial Day Parade at 2 p.m. and amid a festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Some services around Falls Church are closed or modified for the federal holiday on Monday, May 29. Below are the changes to know.

City of Falls Church government offices: Closed on Monday, May 29.

Schools: Falls Church City Public Schools and Fairfax County Public Schools will be closed May 29.

Community Center: The Falls Church Community Center will be open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on May 28 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 29.

Courts: The Fairfax County Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed May 29.

Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers in Northern Virginia will be closed May 29.

Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will operate Sunday service on May 29. Routes running on Sundays are 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 558, 574, 605, 615, 630, 640, 650, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5. Libraries: Mary Riley Styles Public Library is closed on May 28 and 29. On May 29, all Fairfax County Public Library locations will be closed.

Metro: Metro will open at 7 a.m., closing at 1 a.m. Saturday and midnight Sunday and Monday. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a Red Line shutdown between Rhode Island Avenue and Fort Fotten and Blue Line late night single tracking between Arlington Cemetery and Pentagon City. Office of Elections: Early voting sites are closed on May 29 in the City of Falls Church and Fairfax County.

Post offices: Closed on May 29.

Rec centers: Fairfax County rec centers are open from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 29, and George Washington Rec Center is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mount Vernon Rec Center remains closed for a renovation project.

Trash and recycling: City of Falls Church collections happen on Wednesdays. For county collection customers, regular trash and recycling collection will happen on May 29. If you have private collection, contact your hauler.

Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) are open regular hours on 29.
