Months-Old Coleslaw Found: Falls Church Restaurant Inspections

A Falls Church restaurant with mice droppings had a better follow up inspection, while another had long outdated coleslaw.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — Fairfax County regularly conducts health inspections for county and City of Falls Church restaurants. The frequency of inspections on the type of food served and how it is prepared.

“In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations,” states the Virginia Department of Health’s website.

Here are some of the violations from Falls Church inspections in September. Among the violations was coleslaw from July found in a cooler at BBQ Chicken. The item was thrown out.

violations: employee drinking from soda can in kitchen, raw food stored over ready-to-eat food, tomatoes, cheese and boiled eggs cold holding at improper temperatures, coleslaw dated July 22 in cooler (all corrected)

Cinthia's Bakery: 5860 Columbia Pike #103, Falls Church, VA 22041, last inspection: Sept. 8

violations: employee not changing gloves after handling beef, cheese empanadas hot holding at improper temperature in display case, butter, creamer and hot dogs cold holding at improper temperatures (all corrected)

Dominion Deli: 8114 Arlington Boulevard, Falls Church, VA 22042, last inspection: Sept. 12

violations: food employee using ripped glove, employee drinking from uncovered beverage at food prep area, potatoes hot holding at improper temperature, foods cold holding at improper temperatures (all corrected)

Haandi Indian Cuisine: 1222 Broad St W, Falls Church, VA 22046, last inspection: Sept. 11

violation: raw food stored over ready-to-eat food

Hong Kong Palace Restaurant: 6387 Seven Corners Center, Falls Church, VA 22044, last inspection: Sept. 12 (follow up)

violations: ope back door could allow entry of pests, (mouse dropping violation corrected)

Hong Kong Pearl Seafood Restaurant: 6286 Arlington Boulevard, Falls Church, VA 22044, last inspection: Sept. 12

violations: raw food stored over ready-to-eat food, butter, tofu and squid cold holding at improper temperatures, meat hooks covered in rust and dried blood, toxic cleaners stored above food ingredient (all corrected)
