New Women + Children's Hospital to Open Jan. 26

FAIRFAX, VA -- Inova Health will open its new Inova Women’s and Children’s Hospital on Jan. 26 in Fairfax County at its campus at 3300 Gallows Road (see map below story) on the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. The healthcare system broke ground on the $400 million project in 2012 and held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Jan. 5.

The mission of the new women’s hospital is to serve women throughout their lives, in every stage of their health care needs.

The two hospitals are housed in the same 660,000-square-foot building adjacent and attached to the main Inova Fairfax Hospital, each with distinct and separate identities, according to Healthcare Design.

Within the newly expanded Inova Women’s Hospital, features include all private patient rooms, including 192 private women’s beds, 33 labor and delivery rooms, six C-section rooms, operating rooms dedicated to women’s surgical procedures, a High Risk Perinatal (HRP) Unit with exclusive private rooms, VIP amenities and family garden space. Family and friends are welcome 24/7, and can stay overnight in comfort in beautiful new spaces.

Local lawmakers, including Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity and Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R-10th) toured the facility at the ribbon-cutting:

All of the acute-care floors are grouped into complementary specialties to improve flow and staff collaboration. The overall design of the building employs evidence-based research that promotes healing, safety and patient comfort, while the “green” elements showcase Inova’s continued commitment to sustainability.

World-class Children’s Hospital

The new Inova Children’s Hospital is Northern Virginia’s only children’s hospital, featuring 116 private pediatric patient rooms, an expanded 108-bassinette level IV neonatal intensive care unit- the most advanced in the entire region, pediatric oncology unit, Northern Virginia’s only pediatric intensive care unit with 26 beds including eight cardiac intensive care unit beds. The new pediatric rehab room offers our patients therapy services that meet child-specific needs.

With a separate child-friendly entrance, the new Inova Children’s Hospital includes a number of features built specifically for patients, developed by feedback from staff, former patients and families. One of our main goals is to offer the latest in state-of-the-art technology while ensuring kids and their families feel safe and comfortable. Three playrooms, a teen room and outdoor play park will allow young patients and their families a safe space away from medical procedures so that they may focus on spending time together as a family. Interactive art, healthcare friendly equipment and modern technology are the perfect combination for a safe, fun environment.

The new Inova Children’s Hospital will also feature dedicated family spaces, where parents and families can make phone calls, check e-mails or work remotely if needed. We have incorporated these features with feedback from our physicians, staff and patient families – all to provide a space that is as functional as it is beautiful.
