New Year's 2017: What's Open, Closed In Falls Church

While most services won't be open New Year's Day around Falls Church, a few will remain closed the following day.

FALLS CHURCH, VA—Families will get another (or continued) break from work or school to ring in 2018, and many services will remain closed through the holiday weekend.

City of Falls Church and Fairfax County offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 1, 2018. Similar to Christmas, services with the exception of some public transit will not run on New Year's Day. In addition, public transportation, recreation centers and other services will run on different schedules on New Year's Eve. Services will resume Tuesday, Jan. 2 unless noted.

City of Falls Church Offices: Closed New Year's Day. All will reopen Jan. 2, except the City Clerk's office.

Fairfax County Offices: Closed New Year's Day.

Schools and Administrative Offices: Falls Church City Schools closed through Jan. 2. Fairfax County Public Schools closed through Jan. 1.

State Offices: Commonwealth of Virginia offices in Fairfax County and Arlington County will be closed Jan. 1-2, including Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.

Animal Shelter: Closed Monday.

Community Centers: Falls Church Community Center is open New Year's Eve from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) programs, activities and facilities will be closed Dec. 30-Jan. 1.

Fairfax Connector and Fastran: Fairfax Connector bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on New Year's Day. See www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector/ for more information. Fastran will not operate on New Year's Day.

Libraries: Mary Riley Styles Public Library and Fairfax County libraries are closed New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Metrorail: Open New Year's Day from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. on a Sunday schedule with off-peak fares in effect and free parking at Metro-operated lots and garages. Open New Year's Eve from 8 a.m. until 2 a.m. on a Sunday schedule.

Metrobus: Information available at www.wmata.com

Parking: Parking is free at park and ride locations and Metro parking lots.

Parks: Closed New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. See regular hours at fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/holiday-hours.

Fairfax County Recreation Centers: All rec centers except George Washington RECenter are open until 4 p.m. on New Year's Eve. All are closed New Year's Day.

Recycling: I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax) and I-95 Landfill (9850 Furnace Road, Lorton) will closed at 2 p.m. on New Year's Eve and be closed New Year's Day.

Trash Pickup: Falls Church trash pickup is on Wednesdays. County residents should contact individual Fairfax County and private service providers for holiday hours.
