Officer On Leave After Shooting In Falls Church Area Home

Fairfax County Police say officers encountered the man with an assault-style weapon Tuesday night.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — A Fairfax County police officer shot a man shot a man in a home Tuesday in the Falls Church area.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. when SWAT officers were serving a narcotics search warrant and other arrest warrants in the 7600 block of Lee Landing Drive. According to police, the man confronted officers with an assault-style weapon. One of the SWAT officers fired his weapon, striking the man.

The man, David Vo, 24, of Falls Church, was given medical aid and was taken to the hospital. He has been treated and released. No officers were injured.

Detectives found multiple assault-style weapons, a pistol and narcotics in Vo's home. Vo was charged with felony distribution of marijuana, felony failure to appear, distribution of marijuana while possessing a firearm, possession of a firearm with a schedule I or II drug, felony distribution of marijuana, ammunition possession by felon (conviction within 10 years), firearm possession by non-violent felon and drug possession schedule I or II. Vo is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

The officer, a 16-year member of the police department, is on administrative leave pending a criminal investigation into the use of force and administrative investigation. The findings of the criminal investigation will be presented to the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fairfax County. The independent police auditor will do an independent review once the investigations are finished.

The police department has not released the officer's name but is expected to do so within 10 days.
