FALLS CHURCH, VA — While Falls Church City Council will allow the COVID-19 emergency declaration to end on Oct. 1, some business flexibilities offered during the pandemic will continue.

On Tuesday, City Council approved an ordinance to extend the easing of certain zoning regulations for businesses over the next six months starting Oct. 1. The easing of regulations includes signage advertising drive-up and carryout food not otherwise allowed, taking food orders from outside a food establishment but nearby and use of parking spaces for tents, outdoor dining and carryout.

City staff will use the six-month extension time to evaluate which permanent zoning changes should be recommended. Staff will then make a recommendation for amendments to the city's zoning ordinance.

On Tuesday, City Council also voted to continue a public hearing on Oct. 11 for amendments requested by developer Mill Creek Residential Trust on the Founders Row project. Consideration of the new economic development agreement between the Founders Row developer and the city was deferred to Oct. 11 as well.
