Elderly Pedestrian Killed In West Falls Church Hit-And-Run
Detectives are calling for witnesses to the crash and have no initial information on the striking vehicle.
FALLS CHURCH, VA — Fairfax County Police are seeking witnesses after an elderly pedestrian died in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night in the West Falls Church area. This was Fairfax County's first pedestrian fatality of 2021.
Police responded before 9 p.m. in the 7300 block of Lee Highway near Graham Road, which is just outside Falls Church City proper. Police initially received a report of a person lying in the roadway. The victim, Raymunda Garcia-Hernandez, 81, of Falls Church, was found in the westbound lanes. She was pronounced dead by rescue personnel on the scene.
Detectives believe Garcia-Hernandez was crossing Lee Highway outside of a crosswalk and was hit by an unknown vehicle. The striking vehicle did not stop and has not been located. Police are actively investigating.
