People Stuck In Elevators, Traffic Lights Out In Falls Church

BREAKING: Thousands of customers in Falls Church are without power. Some got stuck in elevators as the power went out.

Update: Power has been restored as of 3 p.m. Friday afternoon.

FALLS CHURCH, VA—Outages have struck on a rainy Friday morning in Falls Church, leaving thousands of residents without power.

The outages are affecting much of the city, including City Hall and traffic lights. As of noon, more than 3,800 customers lost power in the City of Falls Church and outskirts in Arlington and Fairfax Counties, as well as over 1,800 in the West Falls Church area alone.

Police remind residents to treat dark traffic lights as four-way stop signs. Residents should also be aware of downed power lines near the outskirts of Falls Church. In Arlington, Fairfax Drive from Lee Highway to N. Winchester Street is closed. Authorities urge residents to stay clear of downed power lines and trees.

With these power outages came multiple reports of citizens stuck in elevators in Falls Church too. Arlington firefighters reported via Twitter they are responding, and citizens should remain calm until help arrives.

According to Dominion Energy's power map, crews will restore power by 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. As of 11:50 a.m. power has already been restored at City Hall.
