Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said this is the fifth time that a mother, father, or sister has been killed by a son or brother in the county in 2021. It is the 18th murder in Fairfax County in 2021. At this time last year, the county had recorded six murders.

O'Carroll said Fairfax County police had been at the residence prior to Wednesday in response to domestic disturbance calls.

A family member reported Nguyen missing on Sunday, according to O'Carroll.

Members of the police department's forensics bureau are expected to remain at the home late into the night and possibly into Thursday investigating Nguyen's death, he said.
